Femke
Femke SONNEN started sailing at age 14 and subsequently joined her father
aboard 'Snoopy', a nice Edel V.
Graduating from the Amsterdam and Utrecht Conservatories of Music,
she settled in Belgium. She obtained the 'Yachtman' and the 'Algemeen
Stuurbrevet' certificates of competence. She - together with Peter
- started chartering yachts and went to Normandy, Brittany, The
Channel Islands, Scilly's, Wadden, Corsica and Greece.
When 'Vela' was bought, the 'normal' weekend sailing
was extended with long sailing trips to Norway (2001) and Scotland
(2003).
Peter
Peter OVERLAET was hastily dropped in a 420 sailing dingly at age
14, only to discover he was 'contaminated'.
Later on, he obtained his papers and licences (Yachtman, Yachtnavigator,
Algemeen Stuurbrevet, VHF, GMDSS) and went to work as skipper on
charter yachts, mostly Med. Peter got his sailing experience -
offshore master - in an area extending from the Azores to the Hardangerfjorden
and from Spain to Greece.
Peter is a long-time instructor (evening prep courses) in coastal navigation
for Yachtman and the Algemeen/Beperkt Stuurbrevet and a HAM-operator.
